As an all volunteer shelter, ARFhouse Chicago relies solely on our volunteers. It is because of their dedication and hard work that we are able to help so many animals in need. There are a variety of ways you can help make a difference. If you are interested in any of the opportunities below or want more information, please contact us at email@example.com
**We will be holding volunteer orientations on Thursdays at 6pm and Saturdays at 10am. When applying, please note which orientation you prefer.**
Dog Walking – Do you have a little extra love to give and would like to make a difference in a dogs life? Consider becoming a dog walker for ARFhouse. We offer extensive hours for dog walking that can fit almost any schedule. After attending an orientation, you will be able to take our dogs out for long walks, help them become more socialized and make the difference in the life of each of the dogs.
PR/Advertising – We hope you aren’t shy! We’re looking for PR and Advertising volunteers that will help coordinate our efforts in spreading the word about ARFhouse Chicago through press releases, web blogs, advertising in local publications, and talking to media and local businesses about our great shelter and our fundraising events. This committee will also work in conjunction with the Marketing Committee, and with the Events and Fundraising Committee to build our sponsorship and large-scale donors.
Marketing – Think you have what it takes to help bring a small shelter into the spotlight and grow? We’re looking for volunteers with marketing experience to help grow our young shelter through advertising, press kits, community awareness, publications, campaigns and programs. We have several opportunities within the marketing committee where we can use help, and we also welcome new ideas from marketing pros as well. There is no minimum time commitment, and a lot of marketing work can be done from home.
Graphic Designer – We’re looking for help creating materials for print and electronic circulation. From event flyers to information pamphlets to postcards featuring specific pets, we need some creative people that can help us showcase what we do. This position works with the marketing committee. This can be done from the comfort of your own home and can be used to build your portfolio.
Poster and Brochure Volunteers – Do you like to get out in the city, or even just in your neighborhood? We’re looking for volunteers that can help us post event flyers at local businesses and keep a list of participating businesses. This is only needed a few times a year prior to events. We are also looking for volunteers to go to vets, groomers, dog trainers, etc. with our shelter information, and keep track of when we need refills. We will provide the material; we just need extra legwork!
Event Chair – If you excel at party planning, organization, have good communication skills and know how to have fun, this is the role for you. Our Event Chairs are in charge of planning and executing our fundraising events. This requires working with the fundraising committee and keeping within a budget. Each event has one or two Event Chairs.
Fundraising Committee Member – Seeking people able to put the “fun” in fundraising! Our fundraising committee members assist Event Chairs in organizing events and work behind the scenes to make sure our events run smoothly. If you are creative and can work with the public, this is the role for you.
Raffle/Auction/Prize Committee – If you like to volunteer from home, this is a perfect role for you. This committee works year-round soliciting raffle/auction/prize items for our many events. Solicitation can include face-to-face meetings with businesses, phone calls, emails and direct mail solicitation. This group works closely with the Fundraising Committee.
Sponsor Committee – This group works with the PR committee as the “face of ARFhouse.” This group works to identify and cultivate potential corporate sponsors and large donors. If you aren’t shy and enjoy establishing and maintaining relationships, this could be the perfect role for you.
Grant Writers – Another great “volunteer from home” option, this group identifies potential grants, writes letters of inquiry and grant proposals, and coordinates grant submissions. This is also a great resume builder. If you have good writing skills, then we can use your help in this area.
